Important information after the tour

Welcome to the information page for new parents. Here you'll find everything you need to make an informed decision about your child's school. From practical details on enrollment and school hours to information about our curriculum and school environment, we hope this helps you get a clear picture of what our school has to offer.

Did you get a positive impression of our approach and our vision for education? If so, you can register your child now using this application form. The registration is handled centrally by the municipality of Utrecht. Once you have completed the form, we will receive your submission and get back to you within 6 weeks.

Would you like to learn more about how the registration process works? You can find more information on this page. Of course, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

At De Fonkeling, we strive to help all children reach their full potential. We have high expectations for everyone. You can read more about our approach on the Appropriate Education page.

Does your child have characteristics of being gifted or having multiple needs? If so, we will tailor our educational offerings to suit your child. For example, we can provide extra depth to the material or adjust the pace. You can read more about this on the page mentioned above.

We always work closely with you as parents, as you know your child best!

De Fonkeling's class schedule for the 2024-2025 school year is as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 08:15 - 14:00

  • Wednesday: 08:15 - 12:15

De Fonkeling is rapidly growing as a child center. We are doing this in collaboration with our childcare partner, Kind&Co ludens. The pedagogical staff of Kind&Co ludens play a role as teaching assistants in the educational process and also work in the after-school care (BSO). This ensures familiar faces and a consistent approach to pedagogy. We also work on the same themes, coordinate with each other, and attend training sessions together.

Through our close collaboration with Kind&Co ludens and our shared vision, we ensure that children from the age of 2.5 years can develop to their full potential.

We are currently working hard on our new building at the Teunisbloemlaan. In the new building, we will offer care and education for children aged 0 to 12 years, and we will also have a nursery. At the bottom of this webpage are some pictures of our new building.

After-school care De Fonkeling (BSO) has a homely atmosphere and consists of three age-divided groups. We offer children a wide range of activities, including creativity, sports, games, and culinary themes. There is also access to the Weide Wereld gym every day.

To guarantee a spot in the BSO, it is important to register your child as early as possible.

The opening hours of our out-of-school care are:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 14:00 – 18:30

Care is also available on Wednesdays and Fridays at Blink out-of-school care. We strive to offer out-of-school care every day in our new building.

At preschool De Fonkeling, children aged 2.5 to 4 years can learn through play. The various play areas encourage them to engage and stimulate the development of language, social-emotional, and motor skills. Children have the opportunity to interact with peers, which helps them get a good start in elementary school. Children with a preschool education (VE) indication are welcome at the preschool. For these children, the focus is on developing the Dutch language, ensuring they are well-prepared for elementary school. Registration for toddler care (and other types of care) can be done via this page of Kind&Co ludens.

At De Fonkeling, we prepare children for success in their future education. We ensure that they leave our school as well-rounded global citizens. In other words, we provide future-proof learning, with knowledge and skills as the foundation. Here’s how we do it:

  • We guarantee effective learning for all children.

  • We are constantly innovating and improving our education.

  • Our education focuses on three areas of development: cognitive, personal (me), and social (we).

  • Every child receives personalized education and tailored guidance.

You can read more about our vision and how it is reflected in our education on the Mission & Vision page.

At De Fonkeling, we have been using the Nederlands Kennis Curriculum (NKC) since the 2021-2022 school year, an approach that makes our school unique. With NKC, we lay the foundation for future-oriented education, where knowledge and skills go hand in hand — exactly what children need to succeed in the future.

The NKC offers a fresh perspective on learning: subjects such as world orientation, digital literacy, close reading, creative disciplines, language, and citizenship are connected to knowledge-rich themes in an inspiring way. Each year, our students explore six exciting themes that both strengthen their basic knowledge and provide a glimpse into the future. Starting in the 2026-2027 school year, the NKC will be fully integrated from grades 1 through 8.

What makes the NKC especially unique? It not only broadens students' vocabulary but also raises their awareness of important topics such as the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. As a result, students' awareness of the world grows, and they learn how they can make a contribution.

At De Fonkeling, we believe that knowledge is the key to understanding and development. With the NKC, we establish a solid foundation that helps our students continue learning with confidence. Curious about how our students experience the NKC? In this video, they share their own experiences.

At De Fonkeling, we celebrate the Catholic holidays of Christmas and Easter, reflecting on the stories that give meaning to these traditions. However, our school is also a meeting place for diverse cultures and religions, which we see as a great asset in the development of our students. Therefore, we are working on a vision of multilingualism and cultural diversity that will enrich our education even further.

We believe it is important for children to learn about different religions and cultures with an open and curious mindset. Through the Nederlands Kennis Curriculum (NKC), we place significant emphasis on this theme. In this way, students gain knowledge about each other's backgrounds, which fosters mutual understanding and respect. We consider this to be very important at our school.

‘De Fonkeling has its education in good order. The teachers deliver well-prepared lessons, and we see students who are actively engaged and focused on their tasks.’ This was stated in the report from the Inspectorate of Education, which visited our school in March 2024. We are, of course, proud of this, as providing high-quality education is our top priority! You can find the full report on the Inspectorate's website.

We're very curious to hear your thoughts on the tour of our school. Your feedback helps us continue to improve. We would greatly appreciate it if you could fill out this evaluation form—it only takes a few minutes. Thank you in advance!
